    FOUNDER & CEO

Dr. Bahman Abbasi is an Associate Professor of Mechanical and Energy Systems Engineering at Oregon State University. His research is supported by over $7M in external funding from US DOE, US DOD, State of Oregon, and the private sector. His research spans water desalination, wastewater treatment, extraction of minerals from brine, low-grade heat recovery, transport phenomena, and application of machine learning in thermal-fluid processes.

  • Saskia van Meer

    COO & COMMUNICATIONS

Saskia is a business developer and communications expert with a background in marine science. She leads all business operations and coordinates Espiku’s fundraising efforts. She is skilled in creating and maintaining a memorable brand identity across platforms and engaging with stakeholders. Saskia’s concern for the social and environmental impacts of technological development drives us to meet energy, water, & mineral savings targets.

  • Behrooz Abbasi

    DIRECTOR OF MINING & SUSTAINABILITY

Dr. Behrooz Abbasi is an associate professor of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. His research interests span stability design for open pit and underground mines, fractured modeling for fragmentation prediction, and blast design and assessment. He leads various efforts in techno-economic and life-cycle analysis in the commercialization of technologies for Espiku.

  • Tyler Hudson

    SENIOR ENGINEER

Tyler received his MS in mechanical engineering from Oregon State University and two BS degrees from Colorado State University. His background in designing prototype solutions in the automotive, cleantech, and renewable industries is invaluable to Espiku’s success in forging and maintaining partnerships with leading design and manufacturing firms, ensuring our technologies meet today’s highest standards.

In the Lab

  • Sandra Dennis

    LEADING LAB TECHNICIAN

Sandra Dennis has a BA in Arts, Media, and Technology from Oregon State University. She joined the Dr. Abbasi’s Lab in 2019. Her background is in the field of Automotive Technology having worked as an ASE Master Tech for 15 years. She is involved in design, fabrication and testing of experimental facilities. She is also responsible for WET Lab advertisement and promotions, 3D design of experimental facilities and technical figures for research publications.

  • Mohammed Elhashimi

    MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Mohammed completed his PhD at Oregon State University. His research explored new measurement techniques for evaporation rates in spray environments, cyclone separators for humid air operation, as well as optimization and AI tools for water desalination technologies. Mohammed has experience in the oil & gas industry as a mechanical and piping engineer.

  • Xiang (Shawn) Zhang

    LAB MANAGER

Dr. Xiang completed his PhD at University of Maryland where he focused on additively manufactured high temperature compact heat exchanger. He has designed, fabricated, and operated a high temperature experimental setup for testing different heat exchanger configurations.
